Garrett County is home to ten state parks and three state forests! That means that no matter what season, there’s a beautiful area for you to explore. Nearly all of the parks and state forests offer walking trails and paths with ranging levels of difficulty. Whether you’re looking to explore Maryland’s tallest free-falling water or walk across the stone bridge built in 1813, there’s plenty of adventure to be found in Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake.
Swallow Falls State Park –
A must-see! The walking trail loops you through this gorgeous park, featuring three famous waterfalls, soaring evergreen trees, and incredible rock formations. The park also offers a pavilion.
Deep Creek Lake State Park –
Relax on the sandy beach and swim in the waters of Deep Creek Lake at Deep Creek Lake State Park! The park features a dedicated swimming area, sandy beaches, miles of walking trails along the lake, several pavilions, and miles of walking trails up the surrounding mountains. The park also features mapped mountain bike trails!
Herrington Manor State Park –
With a total of 365 acres in this gorgeous park, it’s one you can’t miss. The quite lake is great for paddleboats and the sandy beach and swimming area are perfect for a hot summer day. Enjoy 12 miles of trails – many groomed in the winter for cross-country skiing!
New Germany State Park –
Escape to the wilderness and the wonder of New Germany State Park. The expansive park offers miles and miles of walking trails through the woods, several pavilions, a small lake great for kayaks, and an informative nature center.
